REFLEKT

TDR Fault Location

The low voltage distribution cable infrastructure probably forms the most complex network on which to find faults using TDR technology. Multiple tee joints, some three phase, others single phase, varying customer connections and loads all within short distances of each other combine to produce complicated TDR waveforms which are extremely difficult to interpret. To compound this problem, most of the TDRs available for use have not been designed with this network in mind, but rather have been optimised for telecommunications networks – with a single cable path and long distances between cable events. This results in the all too familiar sight of holes being dug and then extended over wide areas as “false” locations are made.

The REFLEKT has been designed solely to locate faults on this cable network. Its unique, patented, signal processing algorithms interpret the data from multiple cable traces before automatically displaying the distance to any cable fault identified – requiring no interpretation of waveform data by the user.

The REFLEKT can be used at any accessible point on the network. In addition to its automatic mode of operation, it can be used manually as a conventional TDR. However, being capable of simultaneously displaying data for all conductor pairs, with well matched output impedances, and having memory to store almost 1000 cable traces, the REFLEKT far exceeds the capabilities of any conventional TDR.
